Week 5 Teams and Players of the Week

Div 3: North Lake (2-0)

When looking at Division 3 schools in Texas one that almost ALWAYS gets overlooked is North Lake. This year they are not off to start. Getting blown out in their first 2 series by LSU-Eunice and McCook. They caught fire last week beating Southwest College Prep 14-3 and 14-4. In just the 2 games they played this past week they outscored Mountain View 23-0 (they finished the sweep of them Monday with a 21-8 win. So outscored them 44-9 in 3 games.)

In the first game they took it 12-0. They were led by the duo of Daylan Bower who went 2-4 with a homer, 4 RBI, 1 R, and 2 BB, and Carson Cheaney who was 2-6 with a homer, 3 RBI’s, and 3 Runs.

In their second game, they won 11-0. This game was led on the mound by Brendan Parker who saw 24 batters over 6 innings, striking out 7 of them with just 3 hits and 1 walk. At the plate, Cheaney came out again only going 1-4, but had a double, with 3 RBI’s and scored 2 runs.

CCCAA: Marin (3-0)

Many of you have probably never heard of this NorCal team. Or even know where Marin County is. It is just north of San Francisco and to be honest if there was just one team of the week Marin would take home that honor.

This past week they took on the then ranked #10 San Mateo Bulldogs, and came out with a Sweep. You read that right a Sweep of a top 10 team!

It started Tuesday when they beat the bulldogs 12-4. Marin put up crooked numbers in their 1st four innings. 2 in the first, second, and third, and 4 in the fourth. Then they scored another in the 5 which put the score to 11-4. They put one more up in the 7th to get to the final score. This game was lead by Dionathan Cornet who was 3-4 on the day with 4 RBI’s and 2 runs. On the mound the win went to Zach Tonnerre who went 6 strong innings striking out 7.

The next win came on Thursday when Marin traveled to San Mateo and got it 8-4. This is another game that started of fast and they never looked back. In the first Cornet had an RBI double that drove in Anthony Pomi. The next batter Joey Loveles hit into a Fielder's Choice which drove Jacob Berg in for their second run. In the second they put up a 3-spot thanks to a Bases loaded walk and then a 2 RBI double by Loveles. Their final runs came in the 4th when they put up yet another 3 spot.

The final game of the series took place back on Marins home turf that Saturday. This game was dominated more by the pitchers even though it was a 6-0 win for them. Owen Hamilton got the start and went 6.2 innings with 4 punch outs with a walk and 6 hits. Tyler Shelley came in for the last 2.1 innings struck out 2 with just a walk and a hit.

Week 1 Preview

It is finally here! The first weekend of the season! Over the next three days there will be over 120 games to kick off the season. Yes, you read that right. There are over 120 games. So sit down. Grab your coffee, Bang, Monster, Red Bull, Vodka Cran or whatever you like to drink while you read and let's look at what we have in store this weekend.

So since there is now two of us. We have decided to add a Pick’em each week. Both Chris and I (Noah) will pick 2 series that we think should be noted. Both make predictions on how we think it will end. Throughout the year, we will keep them tallied and at the end of the season who ever ended up with the worst record will be punished somehow. How about you guys decide! Send in suggestions.

#1 LSU-Eunice vs North Lake

#1 LSU-Eunice starts their season off with a 3-game home series against Div. 3 North Lake. These two teams are no strangers. They have played 21 times since 2013 with LSU-E coming out on top 20-1.

Predictions:

#23 Paradise Valley vs #21 Pima

Arizona already has a key matchup that could play into how this season will end. Even in week one. #21 Pima (Div 1) takes on #23 Paradise Valley (Div. 2) in a 3-Game Series. The edge goes to Pima due to the fact they they are hosting. Being in Arizona is a lot like Florida. There are Division 1 and Divions 2 teams sprinkled throughout the state and they all play each other. Since 2013 , They have played 30 times. With Paradise Valley leading the way with a 17-12-1 Record. They split last year when they played.

Predictions:
Noah
Pima takes it 2-1
Chris

Div. 3- South District Preview (Reg. 2, 5, & 14)

For the first time since the 2011 season, the Representative from this District was not Tyler. After almost a Decade of Dominance, they had been dethroned. Brookhaven Claimed the Title and ended up finishing 3rd when all was said and done.

This district also plays one of the toughest schedules across the board compared to most other Division 3 schools. That is due to the fact that they play half of their schedules against some of the Top Div 1 schools in the country in San Jac, McLennan, and Grayson to name a few when they play any out of conference games.

Previous Winners: ‘19 Brookhaven, ‘18 Tyler (National Runner-Up), ‘17 Tyler (National Champs), ‘16 Tyler (National Champs), ‘15 Tyler (National Champs), ‘14 Tyler (National Champs)

The Pre-Season Player of the Year goes to Ronnie Bailey Jr of Coastal Bend, While the Pre-Season Pitcher of the Year goes to Tylers Cooper Rawls.
