Week 6 Players and Teams of the Week

Teams of The Week

Here is a look at the teams that made the biggest moves or had huge weeks as a team for each division

Div 1: Crowder (7-0)

Yes, Crowder is in this week’s Top 10. But when you play 7 games in a week and outscore your opponents 98-12 it’s worth diving into just how crazy each game was for them.

They started the week on Thursday, with a 31-0 win over Labette.  They played 7 innings scoring in every one of those 7. The biggest inning came in the 5th when they scored 12. On the mound Chandler Ashby threw a complete game shutout striking out 4 and only allowing 4 hits. At the plate is where things obviously get a bit crazy. Frankie Circello and Victor Plaz led the way for them (even though there really is not anyone that did not actually do good that game). Circello was 3-3 on the day with 3 homers, 6 RBI’s, and scored 4 runs himself. Plaz was 3-4 on the day with 2 homers, 9 RBI’s, and 2 Runs.

The next day, Friday, they had a double header against Lake Land. They won the first game 13-0, behind Jared Viertel who threw a complete game shutout, striking out 7 with 3 walks in 5 innings, and Cameron Tissue (South Alabama) who was 3-3 in the game with a double, homer, 6 RBI’s and scored twice. The second game of the day was the closest game they had all week. It was a 2-1 win which they walked off in the bottom of the 7th.

They finished the week with a weekend series against Indian Hills in which they took the games 16-6, 13-2, 11-1, and 12-2. In the second game (13-3), Crowder hit 6 homers as a team. 2 by Logan Chambers, 2 by Landrey Wilkerson, 1 by Frankie Circello, and 1 by Rod Criss.

Div 1- Appalachian District Preview (Reg. 7 & 17)

For the past 2 years, the representative from this District was Walters State. In 2018 they went to Grand Junction as the favorite to win it all with an amazing 56-6 record and just fell short in the National Championship game against Chipola. In 2019, they made the trip with a still-impressive 52-9 record beating out the surprise to many in the district Gordon State (50-9) in the District tile winning both games 5-4 and 5-2.

Past Winners:’19 Walters State, ‘18 Walters State, ‘17 Dyersburg State, ‘16 Darton State

This year's field looks to be much the same, Walters State looks to be the front runner with both the Pre-Season Pitcher and Player of the year in Bryce Hodge (East Tennessee State) and Ben Joyce (Tennessee).
