Div. 1- Plains District Preview (Reg. 6)

Kansas for many that do not know is one of the top places to go see Junior College baseball in the country. With top talent every year, National Ranked teams year in and year out. But for some reason when they get to Grand Junction Things just have not gone their way. The last time any team from this district has made it to the National Championship game was back in 1998 when Cowley won 15-11 over San Jac and yes that is older than most likely every single player that is playing in that district/region this year.

With that being said it is about time a school from kansas finally got over the hump.. Three of the last 4 years the ticket has been punched by Cowley (2019, 2017, 2016) with the other Ticket being punched by Barton for their first trip to Grand Junction.

The crop of talent this year is up among some of the best in the country across the entire country:

Johnson County’s- Quinton Hall, Jay Long, and Jackson Galloway

Barton’s- Alex Rodgers, and Carson Pracht

Colby’s- Brayedn Cust

Cloud’s- Kayden Beurgedard, and Evan Wilde

Neosho’s- Drew Miller, and Khalil Thrasher

Fort Scott’s- Dylan Foo and Jakob Machuca

Cowley’s- J’Briell Easley, Blake Roberts, and Janson Reeder

Week 3 Teams and Players of the Week

February 12, 2020 Noah Sharp Cloud, Coastal Bend, Cuesta, Eastern Florida State, Galveston, Johnson County, Miami Dade, NOC-Tonka, Redlands, Richland, Southern Nevada

Div 1: Miami Dade (4-0)

Miami Dade came out swinging this year. They are currently 6-1, but this past week they were 4-0. They took the first game of the Week against Florida SouthWestern State 7-0. They then had a three-game series against the then #5 State College of Florida. They took game 1 7-3 lead by the duo of Christopher Patterson and Raphy Almanzar-Rosario. Patterson was 2-3 on the day with a double, homer, 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Almanzar-Rosario went 4-5, with 2 doubles, and 2 rbi’s. In the second game, they won 3-2 and came from behind in scoring 2 runs in both the bottom of the 6th and 7th. The finished out the week in game 3 they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back finishing with a score of 6-3.

CCCAA: #17 Cuesta (2-1)

Just because i was at the games this weekend is not making this a Subjective choice. Cuesta took on the then ranked #4 Orange Coast. They took the first 2 games. In-game one they won 16-3 behind the bat of Harrison Hart, Kirk Woolf, and Broc Mortensen. Hart was 3-5 with 5 RBI’s a Homer, and a Double. Woolf went 3-5 with 2 Doubles, 3 RBI’s and 2 Runs. Rounding out that game Mortensen went 2-5 with a Double, 2 Runs, and 2 RBI’s. In-game 2, Cuesta took it 6-4, behind Mortensen again and Sean Rooney. Mortensen picked up where he left out the day before going 1-2 with a triple, a run and 2 RBI’s. Rooney went 2-3, with a homer, 2 RBI’s and a Run. In-game 3 they came up just short losing 7-3.

Div 2: #8 NOC-Tonkawa (5-0)

Div 3: #11 Coastal Bend (2-1)

Div. 1- Plains District Preview (Reg. 6)

January 4, 2020 Noah Sharp Allen, Barton, Butler, Cloud, Coffeyville, Colby, Cowley, District Preview, Dodge City, Fort Scott, Garden City, Highland (KS), Hutchinson, Johnson, Johnson County, Kansas City Kansas, Labetta, Neosho, Plains District, Pratt, Preview, Region 6, Seward County

Kansas has been dominated in recent years by Cowley. They have won the regional title 3 of the last 4 years. They topped Hutchinson 14-1 in the championship game to punch their ticket to Grand Junction. Once there they lost in their opening round to Walters State then beat both two-time defending champ Chipola, and then Monroe before falling to Navarro who finished 3rd.

Leading the way this year in Kansas is Pre-Season Player of the Year Logan Steenstra (Tennessee) from Cowley. While the Pre-Season Pitcher of the Year goes to Neosho’s Cam Blazek (New Mexico State)
