Week 4 Teams and Players of the Week

Teams of The Week

Here is a look at the teams that made the biggest moves or had huge weeks as a team for each division

Div 1: Grayson (4-0)

Honestly, there was not a team that made a bigger statement across the entire country then what Grayson did this past weekend. This young season has been filled with tons of aww about their Conference Rival McLennan and Grayson was getting tired of people overlooking them.

Grayson, Mclennan, San Jac, and Alvin all traveled down to Houston this past week to take part in the Annual Tournament of Champions hosted by San Jac. Grayson came in swinging. They kicked it off in game 1 versus San Jac with a 5-3 Win. This was behind the Duo of Wade Elliott and Braden Carmichael (Oklahoma). Elliot led the way at the plate going 3-4 with a double, RBI, and scoring 2 runs. On the mound, Carmichael went 6 strong innings allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 7. They toppled Alvin in game two 16-2 behind the combined efforts of Wade Elliot (LA Tech) and Davis Powel. Elliot was 4-5 with 2 Doubles, and an RBI, while Powell was 3-4 with 3 Doubles, 3 RBI’s and 3 Runs. In their second game against San Jac it came down to the wire scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the 7th (6 runs), and 8th (1 run) to put them ahead. This game was led by the duo of Jordan Thompson and Elliot yet again. Thompson was 3-3 on the day with an RBI, and 3 RUns Scored while Elliot continued to tear up the ball going 2-4 with a run and another Double. They wrapped up the weekend with a 9-0 win over Alvin. This game was led by Thompson who was 3-3 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs.

Div 3: Coastal Bend (3-0)

Coastal Bend is in a weird spot in the country to where most of their schedule is against the best of the best at the Division one level. Well, this past week they showed that they belonged with them taking 3 games from Region 14 Power Panola. They took game one 6-5, thanks to a 6 run 6th inning in which Eric Martinez launched a 2 run homer. He ended the day going 1-4. On the mound, Nolan Cox got his 2nd win of the season going 7.0 innings with 6 Strikeouts allowing just 1 run. In-game 2 Coastal took it 3-1. Thanks to 2 late runs in the bottom of the 6th they pushed ahead. Grant Rogers was the stand out for them on the mound going 5 strong innings striking out 11 while allowing just 1 run, he, unfortunately, didn't get the win. Rounding out the sweep Coastal took the last game 6-5 again coming from behind. Scoring in the 7th and then walking it off in the 9th.

Week 6 Preview

If you listened to this week's Juco Pod, then you know this is a big upcoming weekend! So much is going on. And with that we are going to give you a decent look at what is going on across the country for those games and who to follow along or to watch/keep your eyes on.

#13 San Mateo vs #1 Ohlone-Saturday

Coming into the week, Ohlone was sitting on top of California with a perfect 16-0 record, but unfortunately they dropped their first game of the season on Thursday to Canada 8-7. So coming off the first lost you can expect them to come out swinging even more so then they already have this season. Ohlone is the best offensive team in the state of California. They currently are first in the state in Runs Scored (208), Hits (242), Doubles (58), Triples (11), RBI’s (183), Extra Base Hits (83), Total Bases (364), Hit by Pitches (52), Average (.371), On Base Percentage (.483), and  Slugging Percentage (.558). They are second in Sac Flies (16), At Bats (652), and are third in Homers (14), and Walks (104). All of those numbers have just been in 18 Games. Leading this historic start to the season for them has been the trio of SS Bradley Norton, OF Matt Palomino, and OF Max Heverly. Norton (Rutgers) is hitting the team leading .487 with 3 doubles, 3 triples, a homer, 17 RBI’s with 16 runs scored. Palomino is just behind him hitting .437 while leading the team in at bats with 71. With that he has 13 doubles, a homer, 19 RBI’s and has scored the team leading 25 runs. Rounding out this power trio is Heverly. He is hitting .422 with 4 doubles, 14 RBI’s, 24 runs, and leads the team with 13 Stolen Bases.

For san Mateo they started off the season  at 9th in the state and moved up to 8th a week later. They have since fallen to 13th after last week's unfortunate sweep by Marin. Their offense has been led this season by C Korrey Siracusa and C Danny Carnazzo. Siracusa leads the team hitting .365 with 2 doubles, 6 RBI’s and 13 runs. Carnazzo is just behind his teammate hitting .345 with a team leading 20 hits, 5 doubles, 6 RBI’s, and has scored 13 runs.

Week 5 Teams and Players of the Week

Div 3: North Lake (2-0)

When looking at Division 3 schools in Texas one that almost ALWAYS gets overlooked is North Lake. This year they are not off to start. Getting blown out in their first 2 series by LSU-Eunice and McCook. They caught fire last week beating Southwest College Prep 14-3 and 14-4. In just the 2 games they played this past week they outscored Mountain View 23-0 (they finished the sweep of them Monday with a 21-8 win. So outscored them 44-9 in 3 games.)

In the first game they took it 12-0. They were led by the duo of Daylan Bower who went 2-4 with a homer, 4 RBI, 1 R, and 2 BB, and Carson Cheaney who was 2-6 with a homer, 3 RBI’s, and 3 Runs.

In their second game, they won 11-0. This game was led on the mound by Brendan Parker who saw 24 batters over 6 innings, striking out 7 of them with just 3 hits and 1 walk. At the plate, Cheaney came out again only going 1-4, but had a double, with 3 RBI’s and scored 2 runs.

CCCAA: Marin (3-0)

Many of you have probably never heard of this NorCal team. Or even know where Marin County is. It is just north of San Francisco and to be honest if there was just one team of the week Marin would take home that honor.

This past week they took on the then ranked #10 San Mateo Bulldogs, and came out with a Sweep. You read that right a Sweep of a top 10 team!

It started Tuesday when they beat the bulldogs 12-4. Marin put up crooked numbers in their 1st four innings. 2 in the first, second, and third, and 4 in the fourth. Then they scored another in the 5 which put the score to 11-4. They put one more up in the 7th to get to the final score. This game was lead by Dionathan Cornet who was 3-4 on the day with 4 RBI’s and 2 runs. On the mound the win went to Zach Tonnerre who went 6 strong innings striking out 7.

The next win came on Thursday when Marin traveled to San Mateo and got it 8-4. This is another game that started of fast and they never looked back. In the first Cornet had an RBI double that drove in Anthony Pomi. The next batter Joey Loveles hit into a Fielder's Choice which drove Jacob Berg in for their second run. In the second they put up a 3-spot thanks to a Bases loaded walk and then a 2 RBI double by Loveles. Their final runs came in the 4th when they put up yet another 3 spot.

The final game of the series took place back on Marins home turf that Saturday. This game was dominated more by the pitchers even though it was a 6-0 win for them. Owen Hamilton got the start and went 6.2 innings with 4 punch outs with a walk and 6 hits. Tyler Shelley came in for the last 2.1 innings struck out 2 with just a walk and a hit.
