Let’s start the Week 2 report with some big-time congrats from across the country. The New skipper at Howard got his first win as a head coach with an 8-3 win over Odessa. Amarillo got their first win in program history with a 21-1 Win over Lamar, coupled with the first series win as a program with a 3-1 series win over Luna.
Across the country, more teams got started across the divisions. Some teams in the middle of the country were hit with a nice little freeze which affected some teams’ weeks and schedules but as juco bandits do they figured it out and got at least something to be played.
Division 1
Both the Panama City classic and Zinger Invitation went off and boy were they a success. According to sources 100+ different scouts across all levels made their way to one of those two events this past weekend.
South Mountain Took home the Crown in the Dessert going 4-0 on the weekend. They beat Lamar 6-3, El Paso 5-3, #16 Salt Lake 5-4, and took home the crown against Pima with a 5-0 win.
Over in Florida, Wallace-Dothan came in hot and showed they may have been overlooked by many to start the season. They won the 2nd Panama City Classic going 4-0 on the weekend. They started beating State College of Florida 9-0, then #17 Wabash Valley 3-2, Andrew 3-2, and won the Crown with a win over the Host school #14 Gulf Coast State 7-4. With this showing, it would be hard to say that Dothan is not one of if not the favorites coming out of Alabama now.
Another Week, and another undefeated week for the team in New Mexico that people usually forget about in New Mexico Miltary. They are now sitting 8-0 on the season. And have done so with a solid mix of both hitting and pitching. This past weekend however they hit a team slash line of .488/.576/.976 along with 12 homers, 7 triples, and 11 doubles, scoring a total of 65 runs. Now the season is early yes. But it looks like the guys over in Roswell are going to come out hot this year and make some noise in Region 5
Division 2
So the Defending National champs got off to a hot start facing #25 Wharton this past weekend. They played 2 separate double headers and looked to be dominant from the start. They won the games 6-2, 6-1, 8-3, and 11-7. As a team, they hit .385 with 13 doubles and scored a total of 31 runs. On the mound, they struck out a total of 29 batters. While only allowing 10 earned runs out of the 13 total runs they allowed.
Meridian was the lone Division 2 team taking part in the Panama city classic this past weekend. Now we did talk about the winner in the Division 1 section. However, Meridian went in and showed that they can play with the big dogs at any level. They went 2-2 on the weekend. They started with a win over Delgado 12-8, Lost to #14 Gulf Coast State 9-5, Won their 3rd game 7-0 against #21 Florida SouthWestern behind a No-Hitter from Southern Miss Commit Cole Boswell. They lost their final game on the weekend 4-3 to #6 McLennan.
Division 3
As you can see below in the weekly 25 results not many division 3 teams have got going. And the ones that had got hit hard with the weather in texas this past week.

Week 3 Things to Watch
Going into week 3 there is another handful of pre-season tournaments kicking off. This week there are 2 going on in Texas with yet another one going on in Southwest Tennessee.
Tournament of Champions
The Tournament of Champions which is hosted by #3 San Jac has been a staple in the pre-season Junior college baseball scene for a long time. One of the best memories i (Noah who is writing this) was from back in the juco days was a Late Night Game between San Jac and Howards where there was so much fog you could hardly see the outfield. But in true juco fashion, we played anyways.
This year’s field looks to be getting back to the ways of old with talent from neighboring states as well as a few teams from a bit farther.
Below will be the schedule of who plays who and where they will play but here are the teams that are taking part in this year’s installment of the Tournament of Champions
Teams |
#3 San Jac |
#17 Wabash Valley |
Seminole State (OK) |
Ranger |
Galveston |
Navarro |
Baton Rouge |
When looking at this field it is going to be San Jacs Tournament to lose. But there are a few teams that have a chance to make alot of noise. Wabash Valley with a bounce-back week. Ranger looks to be carrying on the success that they had late into last season.
Three of the top games you should tune into this weekend are going to be Friday @ 2:30 Navarro vs Ranger @ San Jac, Saturday @ 1:30 #17 Wabash Valley vs #3 San Jac @ San Jac, and Sunday @ 11 Seminole State vs #17 Wabash Valley.
Brazos Valley Bombers Tournament
Just a bit down the road is another big-time tournament taking part in the lone star state. The Brazos Valley Bomber Tournament has been on the come up the last few years. Getting alot of the top teams from both sides regions 5 and 14 together in an “SEC vs BIG 12” esc-style weekend.
Below will be the schedule as well as who is taking part in this weekend’s tournament:
Teams |
#25 Wharton |
Paris |
Odessa |
Blinn |
Alvin |
Tyler |
Howard |
Grayson |
There are alot of games that you should keep your eyes on when watching this tournament. But the Top 3 you should tune in on if you do get the chance to would be Thursday @ 4 Odessa vs Alvin, Friday @ 1 Paris vs Wharton, and Saturday @ 7 Wharton vs Grayson.
Early Bird Classic
The last tournament taking part this weekend that you should take a look at is going to be the second straight one hosted by Southwest Tennesse at USA Stadium in Millington, TN. This one is going to be just a bit different than last week. Still the same level of competition.
Below is both the Teams taking part and the schedule of when they will play:
Teams |
#13 Dyersburg State |
Columbia State |
Northwest Mississippi |
Glen Oaks |
Jefferson (MO) |
Motlow State |
Northwest-Shoals |
Olney Central |
Southwest Tennessee |
When looking at the schedule here are 3 games you should tune in for: Saturday @ 11 Motlow State vs Northwest Mississippi, Saturday @1:30 Northwest Mississippi vs Columbia State, Sunday @12 #13 Dyersburg State vs Jefferson (MO)
