Teams of the Week
Pima 3-1
OK so for the first time this season the team of the week is not one that had an undefeated week of play but one that made a HUGE STATEMENT with the week that they did have.
Pima Hosted #1 College of Southern Nevada this past weekend to kick off their season. The took 3 of the 4 games from the Pre-Season Consensus #1 Team. With 2 of them being in a decisive manner.
When Asked about his team and this past weekend Coach Jacome had this to say “I think our team is a bunch of blue collar hard working kids who compete. Playing CSN was a great challenge for us and I believe we gained a little confidence in knowing we can compete with anyone in the country.“
They lost game one in a nail biter that came down to the end 8-9. They began to rally back in the bottom of the 9th with 3 runs but fell just short of the comeback. After a rough start from Wilson Bannister (4.1 IP, 8 ER, 4 HR) Darius Garcia came in the 5th and held Southern Nevada at will only allowing one base runner the rest of the game. Both Daniel Duazo (2-2, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 2B) and Parker Schmit (1-2, HR, 2 RBI, 1 R) led the way for the offence that again just fell short.
Game two was a slugfest on both sides with a combined 10 extra base hits coming by the easy of 5 Home runs and 5 Doubles. It was won in the bottom of the 8th by a a Walk of hit by Terrel Huggins.
The Next two games they won 7-4 and 17-9 and we will let the Pima Athletic Department tell you how those went
