Island Invitational
So going into the Island Invitational if you would have said it ended the way it did i think most people would be surprised. That though is not a diss by any means to any team that took part in this the past weekend. The teams that surprised almost everyone were Temple and Western Texas.
Both teams coming into the weekend had a lot to prove. Temple had played 3 games against JV Teams and did not really get to see what they were made of. Now this weekend their Bats came alive as well as their pitching showed up. Going 3-0 is never an easy task but going 3-0 against the opponents that they did should tell you a lot about what is going on over there.
Western Texas was the other big surprise this weekend going 2-1 with wins over both Alvin and Galveston. Western Texas showed that they are not to be understated when it comes to playing this year. With the west of Region 5 pretty wide open at this point with no Clear top dog yet it would not surprise us if Western made a strong case at making their way to a Regional for the first time in a long time.

Teams of the Week
#12 Chipola
As you saw in our Top Plays of the week, Chipola ended one of their games with a bang in a 3-Run Walk off homer to seal the deal in the 12 inning. This though was just part of their impressive week.
The Indians took 4 games from #15 Florida Southwestern. Other than the walk off in game 3 these games seemed fairly one sided.
In Game 1, they started off behind giving up 1 in the 2nd Then Scored 2 in both the 3rd and 4th off the bats of Cameraon Gray (Troy Commit) (1-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, HR) and Jozsef Rohrbacher (Mercer Commit) (1-3. 2 RBI, Double). Then Bo Bonds (UL-Lafayette Commit) came in in the 5 for a 9 out save striking out 4 while allowing just 2 runs of two solo shots.
In Game 2, Florida Southwestern Started with 3 runs in the top of the 1st before Chipola stepped on the Gas scoring 3 in the 1st 1 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 6th. That all came off the bats of Mark Black (1-4, 3 RBI, 1 R, HR), Dylan Goldstein (3-4, 1 R, 2 Doubles) and Jozsef Rohrbacher (Mercer Commit) (2-4, 1 RBI). On the mound Andrew Baker went 4 strong innings with 8 K’s while allowing the only 3 runs in the game. Cedric De Grandpre came in the 5th and finished the game with 8 K’s, No Walks, and just 2 Hits.
Game 3, was where the bats for both teams came alive. In every inning except the 8th, 10th, and 11th there were runs scored. Dylan Goldstein was the “Savior” when it came down to the bottom of the 12th with a 3-Run homer to walk it off.
Game 4, was another high scoring affair for both teams with only the 2nd and the 7th being the only innings that no runs were scored. Leading the way for Chipola was Cameron Gray (Troy Commit) (2-4, 4 RBI, 2 R, HR), Andre Tarver (2-4, 3 RBI, R, HR), and Alfonso Villalobos (3-3, 3 RBI, 2 R, HR)
#10 San Jac (Swept #7 Grayson)
Howard (Swept Wayland Baptist outsourcing them 58-13)
