Teams of The Week

Here is a look at the teams that made the biggest moves or had huge weeks as a team for each division

Div 1: Kansas City Kansas (4-1)

As stated in this week's new Next 5 Out, KCK made a huge jump this past week. They went 4-1 on the week, winning their weekend series against the then ranked #6 3 games to 1. 

KCK started their week with a mid-week game against state fair in which they won 19-1. After falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first KCK tied it up in the second then scored in the 5th, 7th, 8th, and then scored 9 in the 9th. Leading them in that game was Tre Simmons who got the Start and the wing going 7 innings striking out 3 while giving up the lone run. At the plate 3 Blue Devils had homers, Griffin Everitt (1-4, 2 RBI), Jose Sosa (4-6, 5 RBI, Double) and Trey Hoover (1-4, 2 RBI). 

To start their weekend they took the first 3 games against Cowley before dropping the final game of the weekend. 

The first two games they took at home 6-5 and 14-8. They then took the first game at Cowley 9-8 before dropping the final game 18-1. 

Div 2: Northeast Mississippi (6-0)

Northeast has been one of the Fastest rising Division 2 teams this season. Starting in the 50’s and now find themselves sitting at #7 in the country. This past week they played 6 games between Wednesday and Sunday winning all of them. 

They started Wednesday with a doubleheader win against Jackson State taking game 1 6-4 and game 2 8-0. 

Heading into the weekend they had a 4-game series against Marshalltown. They took game 1 2-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Dylan Hitchcock who went 5.2 Innings striking out 10. In-game 2, the won 13-3 in just 5 innings due to a run rule. Conner Davis and Jacob Compton both helped put up the runs. Davis was 1-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s while also scoring 3 runs. Compton was 1-3 with 3 RBI’s. 

In their Sunday Double Header, It started how the Saturday games ended. By Run Rule. In just 5 innings they won 14-1. The game was led by the bat of Hayes Hansford who was 4-4 in the game with a double, homer, 5 RBI’s and a run. Sunday's second game was a bit closer in a 7-4 win. Compton showed up again going 3-4 in the game with 2 doubles, a Home Runs and 4 RBI’s.
