If you listened to this week's Juco Pod, then you know this is a big upcoming weekend! So much is going on. And with that we are going to give you a decent look at what is going on across the country for those games and who to follow along or to watch/keep your eyes on.
#13 San Mateo vs #1 Ohlone-Saturday
Coming into the week, Ohlone was sitting on top of California with a perfect 16-0 record, but unfortunately they dropped their first game of the season on Thursday to Canada 8-7. So coming off the first lost you can expect them to come out swinging even more so then they already have this season. Ohlone is the best offensive team in the state of California. They currently are first in the state in Runs Scored (208), Hits (242), Doubles (58), Triples (11), RBI’s (183), Extra Base Hits (83), Total Bases (364), Hit by Pitches (52), Average (.371), On Base Percentage (.483), and Slugging Percentage (.558). They are second in Sac Flies (16), At Bats (652), and are third in Homers (14), and Walks (104). All of those numbers have just been in 18 Games. Leading this historic start to the season for them has been the trio of SS Bradley Norton, OF Matt Palomino, and OF Max Heverly. Norton (Rutgers) is hitting the team leading .487 with 3 doubles, 3 triples, a homer, 17 RBI’s with 16 runs scored. Palomino is just behind him hitting .437 while leading the team in at bats with 71. With that he has 13 doubles, a homer, 19 RBI’s and has scored the team leading 25 runs. Rounding out this power trio is Heverly. He is hitting .422 with 4 doubles, 14 RBI’s, 24 runs, and leads the team with 13 Stolen Bases.
For san Mateo they started off the season at 9th in the state and moved up to 8th a week later. They have since fallen to 13th after last week's unfortunate sweep by Marin. Their offense has been led this season by C Korrey Siracusa and C Danny Carnazzo. Siracusa leads the team hitting .365 with 2 doubles, 6 RBI’s and 13 runs. Carnazzo is just behind his teammate hitting .345 with a team leading 20 hits, 5 doubles, 6 RBI’s, and has scored 13 runs.
