Teams of The Week
Here is a look at the teams that made the biggest moves or had huge weeks as a team for each division
Div 1: Grayson (4-0)
Honestly, there was not a team that made a bigger statement across the entire country then what Grayson did this past weekend. This young season has been filled with tons of aww about their Conference Rival McLennan and Grayson was getting tired of people overlooking them.
Grayson, Mclennan, San Jac, and Alvin all traveled down to Houston this past week to take part in the Annual Tournament of Champions hosted by San Jac. Grayson came in swinging. They kicked it off in game 1 versus San Jac with a 5-3 Win. This was behind the Duo of Wade Elliott and Braden Carmichael (Oklahoma). Elliot led the way at the plate going 3-4 with a double, RBI, and scoring 2 runs. On the mound, Carmichael went 6 strong innings allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 7. They toppled Alvin in game two 16-2 behind the combined efforts of Wade Elliot (LA Tech) and Davis Powel. Elliot was 4-5 with 2 Doubles, and an RBI, while Powell was 3-4 with 3 Doubles, 3 RBI’s and 3 Runs. In their second game against San Jac it came down to the wire scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the 7th (6 runs), and 8th (1 run) to put them ahead. This game was led by the duo of Jordan Thompson and Elliot yet again. Thompson was 3-3 on the day with an RBI, and 3 RUns Scored while Elliot continued to tear up the ball going 2-4 with a run and another Double. They wrapped up the weekend with a 9-0 win over Alvin. This game was led by Thompson who was 3-3 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs.
Div 3: Coastal Bend (3-0)
Coastal Bend is in a weird spot in the country to where most of their schedule is against the best of the best at the Division one level. Well, this past week they showed that they belonged with them taking 3 games from Region 14 Power Panola. They took game one 6-5, thanks to a 6 run 6th inning in which Eric Martinez launched a 2 run homer. He ended the day going 1-4. On the mound, Nolan Cox got his 2nd win of the season going 7.0 innings with 6 Strikeouts allowing just 1 run. In-game 2 Coastal took it 3-1. Thanks to 2 late runs in the bottom of the 6th they pushed ahead. Grant Rogers was the stand out for them on the mound going 5 strong innings striking out 11 while allowing just 1 run, he, unfortunately, didn't get the win. Rounding out the sweep Coastal took the last game 6-5 again coming from behind. Scoring in the 7th and then walking it off in the 9th.
